Winter Wardrobe Essentials

If the cold weather hasn’t hit your home yet you still some have time. But if the cold weather’s already arrived, there’s no time like the present to start shopping for your cold-weather wardrobe essentials.

To start things off, there are three things every girl should have in her winter wardrobe. The first is a good pair of boots. There’s no excuse for not having a quality pair of boots in your closet. They keep your toes warm and they’re arguably one of the most comfortable styles of shoes out there.

Thigh-highs are very trendy right now. There’s no denying that they’re incredibly sexy, but they’re not always appropriate. For something a little more universal, consider a pair of ankle boots. Neutral tones like blacks, browns, and grays will go a long way, but colors like maroon and greens are a little more playful, and still seasonally appropriate. Better still, as long as your colors are complementary, ankle boots can go with everything from skinny jeans and leggings to skirts and winter dresses.

Second, you’ll want a stylish coat. This will likely be one of the most expensive pieces in your wardrobe, (sans a few of those designer accessories we’re all guilty of buying on impulse), but if you know where to look you can find a quality, stylish coat that won’t break the bank. If you check out Woman Within, you can find knit, leather, and wool coats that will keep you toasty throughout the season. Grab something in the next few weeks and their additional end of the year sales can help you stick to your budget.

A mid-thigh length (or 3/4) is a classic look, but if you want to go a little bolder, try a long style that hits a few inches above the ankle. Again, you’ll probably get the most use out of a neutral color, but don’t be afraid to have a little fun with a piece if you score a good deal.

Third, you’ll need a sweater. Your ugly Christmas sweater is fun, and the one your grandma made you is sweet, but neither qualify as decent substitutes for completing an appropriate and stylish outfit. For a new twist on a cold-weather classic, try a tunic-length sweater. Vogue credits model Anja Rubik for bringing about “the coziest trend of the season” during the last Fashion Week.

With the right accessories, the sweater seamlessly combines an effortless style with a polished, high-fashion look. Writer Trace Barnhill recommends pairing it with leggings, skinny jeans, or a body-con pencil-type skirt to contrast the form. You can also pair it with boyfriend jeans for a kicked-back weekend look.

Don’t brave the cold weather anymore without the proper winter wear. Keep yourself warm this season, and look great doing it!
