Mickey Art Collection: Uniqlo
MICKEY ART COLLECTION
“Prominent artists and illustrators have created unique designs inspired by Mickey Mouse.”
The following was taken from Uniqlo’s website:
UNIQLO has invited acclaimed artists and illustrators to reinterpret the famous character in their own distinct style. It's Mickey like you've never seen him before, with new and original artwork exclusively at UNIQLO.
Korean-American artist Esther Kim cleverly combines elements of illustration, graphic design, character licensing, art direction, and gallery art to create her own aesthetic world. She’s previously collaborated with Anna Sui, Urban Outfitters, and other global brands, and now brings her signature coyly feminine style to UT.
Paris-based Geneviève Gauckler lends her eccentric aesthetic to Mickey and Minnie in this exclusive UT collection. Her work is distinguished by thought-provoking messages that resonate with viewers, and she’s held solo exhibitions in London, Melbourne, Tokyo, and more.
Jeremyville is a Brooklyn, New York based artist, originally from Sydney, Australia. He has exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, the Andy Warhol Museum, The Madre Museum of Contemporary Art, Bunkamura Gallery in Tokyo, Colette in Paris, and Cooper Hewitt, the Smithsonian Design Museum in New York.
NUTS ART WORKS
What started as a hobby for Tokyo-based artist Nuts Art Works is now a namesake art studio known for designing stylized hand-painted type and eye-catching iconography. After numerous exhibitions and publishing a volume of his acclaimed work, he brings his signature striking style to this universally appealing collection.
School your friends on modern Japanese artist Yu Nagaba and his charming illustrations with this art-forward UT collection. Known for the playful nature of his work, his simple and poignant style has been featured in partnerships with ASICS, G-Shock, and Champion, among others.
So if we take a look below at various styles you can see just how different each artists chooses to represent the wonderful world of Disney. Uniqlo does Disney collections quite often but this one for me takes the cake! Each artist really made their pieces unique and it was so hard to pick just one to take home with me.
I ended up with a design by Yu Nagaba and I LOVE IT!!! It’s a subtle design, actually all of Yu’s designs were but the mister got me Minnie mouse because of the love I have for her.
What I’ve always loved about Uniqlo when they do these design collections is just how much they let these artists have creative freedom. Make sure you take a look at the collection as it should be in stores and online for quite a while.
